Indian employment in the UAE is at the top

According to V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for External Affairs, the UAE is the top employer of Indians worldwide. He made this statement before the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, yesterday.

He responded to a question from Dr. Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, Member of Parliament (MP), by stating that there are currently 3.554 million Indians living in the United Arab Emirates.

According to information provided by the Minister along with his response to the MP's inquiry, there were 3.419 million Indians living in the UAE as of last year.

The UAE is now the most popular location for Indians looking for work abroad, as the most recent number shows an increase of more than 134,000 Indians in a single year.

Five Gulf nations collectively rank among the top locations where Indians can find work. Along with the UAE, these include, in descending order of population, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman.

Muraleedharan estimated that there are 7.932 million Indians living there altogether.

The Indian government has established Overseas Indian Help Centres in Dubai, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Kuala Lumpur to offer advice and counselling to Indian expatriate employees on a variety of issues so they can be role models for other expatriate residents in the nations where they live.

The Minister informed the House of Representatives that all Indian embassies in the Gulf nations have separate Labour Wings.

India-UAE: A bilateral relationship with aspects on the multilateral front

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Abu Dhabi for a day-long visit on Saturday, the two strategic allies will likely examine the progress made since they signed a historic trade agreement. The topics of focus for the visit could be energy, food security, and defense. Still, in the grand scale of things, they are but the highlights of a bilateral interaction that is becoming more and more multinational.

India's ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, said, "The beauty of this relationship has been that our leaders have been in very regular contact, even during Covid."
