The proposed Blue Line of the new Dubai Metro

In October, it was announced that the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai plans to initiate construction of a new Metro Line.

Is this the planned route for the Blue Line of the Dubai Metro?

The city's traffic is at an all-time high, so any fresh ways to get around it are greatly appreciated.

Of course, we're still in the preliminaries. The Dubai Metro Blue Line is a completely new line, for which the authority issued a notice in October requesting interest from contractors for the new design and build.

It will be 30 kilometers long, connecting the Red and Green Lines, with 15.5 kilometers underground and 14.5 kilometers above ground. There will be 14 stations along the route, and 5 of them will be subterranean.

A map depicting possible station locations, including ones in Muhaisnah, International City, The Villa, and Damac Hills, has been making the rounds online. If the predicted stops on the Metro Blue Line pan out, it will significantly expand Dubai's suburban districts' access to the city's main arteries.

The stations depicted on this map may or may not be where the Blue Line (or others) will be located in the future; nonetheless, they do provide a glimpse into the potential expansion of Dubai's already-popular rail system.

The map, which can be found on Wikimedia Commons, also foresees the development of the Gold, Pink, and Purple Lines in addition to the current Red and Green Line extensions.

Many people now use the Dubai Metro, which has been operating since September 2009. More over 1.8 million people utilized the Dubai Metro on a daily basis in 2023, with around 450 million utilizing the system between January and August. More over a third of all trips taken on Dubai's public transportation system each day are done on the Metro.

The current Green Line stops are in the historic districts of Bur Dubai and Deira, while the Red Line links the airport and the historic districts to the modern districts of Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and the upcoming 2020 World Expo in the southwest.
